14 minutes: Our first TEDx try...

We’ve been sitting on this a little while, hoping for a version with better resolution, but to no avail… So here it is! Our TEDx debut. What a great audience we had, standing up and moving with us. Things really came together at the live event, and I hope it comes across watching it on the screen. Please take a minute (or fourteen), and tune in.

Local News: Running Home

Next week is my last big flight of the year for AHU. Another trip down to Louisiana, this time to my own hometown, to spread the word about Relay of Voices, build connections, and hopefully rally some (financial!) support for this huge endeavor.

Rehearsing Relay

Over the past six months, I traveled down the river and met not only hundreds of amazing river people, but perhaps most importantly, I met the one man who I believe I’ll spend the rest of my life with. Right on the river in Minneapolis! This river, and this project, are already—and swiftly—changing and uprooting in ways very welcome!

Long Overdue: Last Long Run

It's official. The Advance Tour for #relayofvoices #thegreatriverrun is in it's last 24 hours. A storm has been making it's way inland from just off the coast, thwarting our plans to take a boat to the Mouth of the River today... the "3 passes" that is—that's right, it's a Delta, it fans out, and there is not just one way out, there are many. Mr. Earl was willing and so generous to take us down after our meeting in Plaquemines Parish on Wednesday, but as the low pressure built, we knew we had to leave these fine cajun people to take care of their land, their lives, their community. We can make it out there another day.

The journey starts now.

This blog is so overdue. I’ve been meaning to write something, even the start of something since last Wednesday when I was driving from work down Ashland Avenue, heading to Mana for rehearsal. Traffic was stop and go and I found myself zoning out in that way where suddenly I am thinking about something I didn’t expect at all to be in my mind! But wham! there it is and there’s a clarity to whatever it is… Like I got on the highway despite being in the very clogged rush hour city street.

35 Secured / 22 Pending / 27 To Go!

The outreach team is hard at work—that being me (Victoria) and my amazing mother, Dinah Bradford, who has taken on this huge endeavor right alongside me. As of today, we have secured 35 community meetings for our 30-day Advance Tour which begins April 27 later this month. We have also touched base with 22 other communities and are just steps away from confirming meetings with these river towns and cities in order to forge partnerships for the 2019 Relay expedition. We will continue reaching out in order to connect with the other 27 communities that we have not yet made contact with in order to make the advance tour a full sweep of the 100 communities that the Relay expedition engages.

Run to Partner

This is my first weekly log here, and somewhat in anticipation of the forthcoming 30 days of travel starting at the end of this month to the end of the next. But I thought I'd get a jump start, build up a practice, and also share with you a bit of the work we are doing here in our studio, developing the mode of researching that we will use in the field along the Great River.
