WHY: Relay of Voices is spearheaded and organized by Victoria Bradford, social choreographer and runner. As Executive and Artistic Director of the non-profit A House Unbuilt, Victoria is using Relay of Voices to explore the physical, cultural, emotional, and historical connectedness of the Mississippi River Region, especially the rootedness individuals and communities feel in the land and water that shape their homes and environment. Relay is using the body to listen to the land and the people.
HOW: With nearly three years of planning, outreach, and fundraising, Relay of Voices is nearly ready to launch. Every day of the Relay, Bradford will cover between 20-40 miles on foot or on bike with the support of surrogate runners. After each day’s run, Bradford will stop in one of the 104 partner communities to interact one-on-one with local residents. Stories from those experiences will be shared at evening story gatherings with local residents and more conversations and interactions will be accumulated.
